Dr. Merkle was a missionary in Southeast Asia for seven years before moving to North Carolina to teach at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008. Dr. Merkle and his wife Marian have been married for over 30 years and have 4 children. He enjoys traveling, riding his motorcycle, and spending time in the mountains or at the beach.
